Oh, my! 20% so soon! Wow!
Anyone who has taken even a passing glance at the most recent stats update
has probably noticed some pretty outstanding progress. We've finally
reached the 20% keyspace mark!
Let me reassure you all that although they look sort of odd, the numbers
you're seeing for 1-Sep-1997 *are* correct. We've had some communication
problems over the past week that has resulted in a large number of blocks
being "hoarded" at the proxies and not being submitted to the master
keyserver in a timely fashion. I know that many of you stats-fiends out
there who have been keeping close tabs on your own local logfiles have
noticed this discrepancy.
Well, that logjab begin to clear on 1-Sept and we're seeing the huge influx
of blocks from the previous week. As nice as it looks, the 6.8gkey/sec
rate isn't quite what we're doing, although I suspect that our true rate is
closer to the 6.8 than it is to the 3.8 or so we've been seeing. We won't
really know for certain until the system "normalizes" in a few days.
Sp, although the current rate is artifically high, the total keyspace
completed is dead-on accurate and each team's block counts are also
correct. We've just been under-reporting for the past week or so. (Note:
observant readers will note that we still have not integrated the "missing
week" from over a month ago)
On a final stats note, we're right on the verge of bringing back the
hosts/domain stats as well as the cpu/os stats. These features are in
testing now and I'm still in the process of importing all the historical
data. This has got to be the most-asked-for feature for stats and I'm
working as fast as I can to get these statistics back online.
On an unrelated note, the stats processing has been using up such a large
portion of my time, we've handed off the rc5help duties to a new person.
If you've received a less-than-timely response from rc5help in the past, I
apologise. I realize that I've really let that slip as I've been focused
on stats. With a fresh, new face behind the curtain, things should be much
better.
At this point, we've checked *** 14 QUADRILLION *** keys. wow.
Keep up the good work everyone! We're MOOving faster every day!
