lets forget about it being optimized for a second.
Would not a linux client run on the card?

>From the FAQ it states that its using a linux kernel and that 
the software must be installed.  I.E. the standard seti programs are
downloaded from seti and installed using a special install program
for the card.  Could not any software be installed?
