[Hardware] The market of ASICs (One GigaKey / Second?)

Apparantly this mail list isn't dead after all, you just have to hit a
sensitive spot :)

I was pleased to see the link to MOSIS, I never knew there is such a
project. (Can I call it a project?) It's a great way of putting a lower
amount of chips in the market for a cheaper (startup) price (not sure about
the final product).
I'm an electrotechnic student and am currently reading about cmos vlsi
design. For example: not until last week I knew SPICE was involved after you
created your VHDL design. It's great to get my hands dirty on new stuff,
specially when we're not talking about needed millions for startup (ie:
making it realistic). And hey, it's vacation anyway.
So yeah, maybe if I ever understand the whole process I'll design a rc5
pipe, an interface that can control the (multiple) pipe(s), and make it
wishbone compliant (pci interface for example). Suddenly, it all looks so
simple. Now if someone had the guts to jump into this market and start a new
hype in distributed computing... if there's a market, there's one way to
find out. And that's by starting with 'a couple of' chips, not 12.5k of 'em
:)

My final $.02 on the subject, for now. Cheers, - wacco.
