SETI is certainly appealing as an idea. The problem I see
with it though, is that you are not getting such a sense of 
accomplishment from it. Cracking cryptography and seeking primes
is going to produce results sometime in forseeable future. 
That might not be the case in the SETI project. Of cource
in the event that something should be found, the SETI project
will definitely get a much larger media coverage :-)
