PUBLIC LECTURE

Title: "The Pre-History of Public Key Cryptography"

Speaker:	Richard Walton, GCHQ

Date: 4 February 1998, 4.30pm

Place: Royal Holloway (University of London)
		Egham
		Surrey
		UK

In December 1997 CESG published an article which contained the following
reference: JH Ellis 'The Possibility of Secure Non-Secret Digital
Encryption'.
CESG Report, 1970. This report, which precedes the celebrated 1976 paper
of
Diffie and Hellman, discusses Public Key Cryptography. Their announcement
has
aroused considerable public interest and Richard Walton has kindly agreed
to
talk to us about those early years.

Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

The talk will be given in Room BLT1 in the Bourne Building but tea will be
provided from about 3.45 outside the Lecture Room.
