=> Hi All,
=> how comes that the WNT Alpha and even more the OpenVMS Alpha client lag so
=> much behind the Intel and other cousins ???
Better yet.. Why does the Intel CLI client emulated under FX!32 on an Alpha NT
box run RC5 faster than the native Alpha NT CLI client on the same box? The
excuse for the slow speeds on all Alphas is that it lacks a certain processor
directive that the Intels posses (check out their FAQ). I "think" FX!32 proves
there might be room for optimization on NT.
The OpenVMS client is understandable.. There is quite a bit of OS overhead
(then again, when 300+ users get logged in interactively and there are 50 batch
jobs cranking away, it keeps chugging without a hitch.. A bit of a tradeoff
there). That and the OpenVMS client is still considered beta (in its README).
It has not been worked on in a looooong time.
