[RC5] PVM?

Well, strictly, the bandwidth requirement of any cluster-based
application depends on the application. The current "D.Net cluster"
contains thousands of nodes and (fortunately) has miniscule
     interprocess communication.

If one were to implement the D.Net RC5 and DES application structure
on a Beowulf or any other (tight) cluster, one would see nearly
linear speedup since there would be very little contention for
shared resources and very little need for inter-node serialization.

This does not say that any program *should* be written for D.Net,
only that a widely available open library for clustering might make
a good jumping off point for v3.

Not really... as one of the FAQs states, distributed.net and Beowulf type
systems are intended to do very different things. Bandwidth is everything to
a beowulf cluster, whereas distributed.net uses almost no bandwidth.

Disclaimer: I'm not involved with the development of v3... :)
