How about an option where the client optimises it's own buffers according to current key rate. The client could automatically buffer enough RC5 blocks to last a day, and enough DES blocks to last for 3-4 hours (or whatever is decided to be the optimal). Then stick the same code in the pproxy, and recommend that everyone with a permanent "normal" net connection uses it. Leave the ability to set your own buffers in though for those people that have funny connections or dial-up access.
