Rodney,

check out bug 1307.
http://n0cgi.distributed.net/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=1307
you probably can start the client with the option '-numcpu 0 ' to work around
the problem.It worked for me with the still official client.
But as you allready noticed it's no longer present in the new (still beta )
client.

Yes, I saw that message too (in the archives), and tried the version mentioned.
It appears to work.

However, it is a beta version, not release, and there is no mention whatsoever
about fixing problems such as the one I'm having.  Oh well.
