[RC5] Missing announcement?

Stuff that I probably should .plan... basically, bug squashing. There's
been several situations that could disrupt the daily stats run  for a
long time, and I've been working on removing those problems.
Unfortunately, Murphy likes to play too, so sometimes my fixes cause new
problems to crop up.
